Deco-mail Templates on i-mode Devices

Last week, I shared a video where I showed some of the Decome Pictograms from the Panasonic P903iTV. It has ignited an interest in Decome that I did not expect, but I am excited to pursue.

P903iTV Visual Assets

To display a sample of some i-mode media, I’ve uploaded the visual assets for the Panasonic P903iTV to Archive.org. In this archive, you will find the following:

• Decomail-Pictograph: These are 20×20 pixel emojis. Each phone model has a different collection based on what the manufacturer chooses, and more could be downloaded online.
• Decomail-Picture: These are images for Deco-mail in case you choose not to use a template
• Documents: These are basic PDFs
• Email Templates: This is what we are focusing on today. Deco-mail templates are pre-made email templates that include decorations.

Deco-mail Templates

Deco-mail templates are very similar to a basic HTML website. The code in the template specifies the background colors, fonts, and images. Amazingly, images are encoded in Base64, which means they are not included as attachments and they will display properly on a variety of devices.

Creating Deco-mail

Docomo provided many resources for creating i-mode content for free, without needing to be a licensed publisher. One of the tools that Docomo released in the Deco Mail Template Creation Tool, which will convert HTML into an i-mode compatible format. You can download this on Archive.org. I have yet to test this tool, but it would be fun to try!
